In May 2023, the Athi Kapiti Wildlife Conservancies Association (AKWCA) held its Annual General Meeting at the Small World Country Club, bringing together key stakeholders, conservancy representatives, and partners to discuss critical milestones and strategies for the year ahead. The AGM provided a collaborative platform to review AKWCA’s progress in wildlife conservation, habitat protection, and community engagement, and to set new priorities aimed at strengthening conservancy governance and sustainability. Attendees included representatives from member conservancies, conservation experts, and community leaders, all united by a shared commitment to preserving the Athi Kapiti ecosystem and supporting local livelihoods.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in discussions on sustainable resource management, innovative conservation practices, and the integration of technology in monitoring and managing wildlife populations. The AGM also served as a forum to address pressing challenges faced by the conservancies, from climate-related impacts to human-wildlife conflict, and to celebrate collective achievements made possible through partnership and dedication. By the end of the session, a renewed sense of purpose and actionable plans emerged, guiding AKWCA’s continued work toward resilient, community-led conservation in the Athi Kapiti region.
