The Carbon Act
Kenya's Climate Change Act, enacted in 2016, provides a comprehensive framework for addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation in the country. The Act aims to mainstream climate change considerations into national and county government planning, promote low-carbon development, and enhance resilience to climate change impacts. It establishes key institutions and mechanisms, including the National Climate Change Council and the Climate Change Fund, to coordinate and support climate action. The Act also emphasizes public participation, technology transfer, and capacity building as crucial components of Kenya's climate change response.
