In early October 2024, Save Giraffe Now (SGN) joined the
Athi Kapiti Wildlife Conservancies Association (AKWCA) for a collaborative
meeting, focused on enhancing giraffe conservation efforts across the Athi
Kapiti landscape. Held at the Nedlands Hotel in Malili, the meeting brought
together SGN representatives, AKWCA staff, and conservationists from local
conservancies, aiming to address the challenges faced by giraffe populations in
the region. Discussions centered on leveraging advanced monitoring tools and
strengthening community involvement to protect these iconic animals and their
habitats.
Throughout the session, SGN shared insights on sustainable
giraffe management practices and the integration of technology, such as the
Earth Ranger platform, for effective wildlife tracking. Participants also
explored ways to empower local communities in conservation initiatives,
emphasizing the role of education and economic support in promoting
coexistence. By the end of the meeting, SGN and AKWCA established a shared
action plan to improve giraffe conservation outcomes, reaffirming a joint
commitment to preserving biodiversity within the Athi Kapiti ecosystem.
