Kitui meeting

In Kitui County, a key meeting was held to address pressing conservation issues and explore collaborative solutions. The first session at Yatta B 2 Kanyoonyo Conservancy focused on significant challenges such as poaching, land grabbing, and the declining interest of youth in ranching work. These issues were identified as critical to the future sustainability of the conservancy. Stakeholders discussed how local communities could become more involved in protecting the land and wildlife, with a focus on developing sustainable practices that would engage the younger generation and secure long-term support for the conservancy’s work.

The second part of the meeting, hosted at Parkside Villa in Kitui town, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Kitui Women in Development, who showed interest in carbon projects and how conservation could lead to tangible community benefits. Environmental activists also voiced their desire to get involved in conservation initiatives. This meeting highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration, as local communities, women’s groups, and activists came together to seek ways of turning environmental challenges into opportunities for both conservation and local development.
