In August 2024, the Athi Kapiti Wildlife Conservancies Association (AKWCA) team visited the Ilpolosat community to engage with local members and discuss important conservation efforts tailored to their needs. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to connect directly with community leaders, conservancy representatives, and local stakeholders about sustainable land use, wildlife protection, and the benefits of community-led conservation. AKWCA shared updates on ongoing regional projects and listened attentively to the community’s perspectives, addressing their specific challenges and aspirations for conserving the Ilpolosat community.
The discussions highlighted the potential for enhancing community-managed conservation practices and developing income-generating activities that would benefit both conservation and local livelihoods. AKWCA underscored the value of building partnerships and involving the Ilpolosat community as key stakeholders in conservation initiatives. By the end of the visit, both AKWCA and the Ilpolosat community reaffirmed their shared commitment to working together, fostering a sustainable future that supports both the people and wildlife of the region.
